In 1702, Bidloo was invited to serve as the court physician to Tsar Peter I. The contract stipulated a generous annual salary of 2500 guilders.

Foundation of the Moscow Hospital

In 1707, Bidloo founded the Moscow Hospital and School, the first state-run medical institution in Russia. The hospital and school were situated in Lefortovo, where Bidloo served as its inspector and professor of anatomy and surgery for over 30 years.
