Legal Career

Before joining the company SCA as Executive Vice President and General Counsel in September 2001, Seligman was a partner at Williams & Connolly LLP, one of the largest law firms in the United States. During her time at the firm, she handled complex civil and criminal cases and provided counsel to a wide range of clients, including President William Jefferson Clinton and Colonel Oliver North.

Seligman's career in law began with clerkships in the U.S. judicial system. From 1984 to 1985, she served as a law clerk to Thurgood Marshall in the Supreme Court of the United States. She was also a law clerk to Judge Harry T. Edwards in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1983 to 1984.

Role at Sony Corporation

Seligman joined Sony Corporation as the Corporate Executive Director in July 2003 and became the General Counsel in July 2005 while retaining her previous responsibilities. In her role, she oversees legal and internal audit matters for the company. She is also a member of the company's Executive Committee.

Seligman gained national attention when she represented Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, a key figure in the Iran-Contra scandal, and President Bill Clinton during his impeachment proceedings.

Colleague's Perspective

Kevin Baine, Seligman's colleague at Williams & Connolly LLP, once said in an interview with The Washington Post: "It's truly remarkable...when you look at what she has done over the years and how she has gained the trust of people of all political views and beliefs - from Thurgood Marshall to Oliver North...to President Clinton."
