Early Life and Training

Nigel de Jong, born on November 30, 1984 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, developed a passion for football from a young age. Inspired by his father, Jerry de Jong, a successful midfielder, Nigel received guidance from him and other football-playing friends. In 1993, he joined the Ajax youth academy, simultaneously playing for the team's youth squads.

Ajax Career

In 2002, de Jong made his debut for Ajax's senior squad, becoming one of its youngest players. He scored his first goal in February 2003 against Arsenal in the Champions League. De Jong's impressive performances earned him the Player of the Season award for 2004-2005, becoming a regular starter for the team. However, as competition intensified within the squad, he opted not to renew his expiring contract in 2006.

Hamburg and Manchester City

In January 2006, de Jong moved to Hamburg in Germany. He played predominantly as a defender for three seasons, scoring sparingly. In January 2009, he joined Manchester City in a £18 million transfer, significantly higher than his £1 million deal with Hamburg. De Jong established himself as a reliable defender and a valuable asset in midfield, initiating attacks and providing defensive solidity. He appeared 104 times for Manchester City, scoring once.

AC Milan and International Career

In 2012, de Jong surprised fans by transferring to AC Milan for £3.5 million. He resumed his familiar midfield role, often participating in attacking plays. From 2002 to 2004, he represented the Netherlands U-21 team before making his senior debut in 2004. He was part of the team that reached the final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, losing to Spain. In the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, de Jong and the Dutch team have progressed well, defeating Spain in the group stage and advancing steadily towards the final.
