Early Life and CareerSlobodan Martinović, born in Serbia, began his chess career as a member of the Yugoslav team. In 1955, he achieved the title of International Master.

Martinović emerged as the Yugoslav Champion in 1955. He represented Yugoslavia at the 1956 Olympiad, the 1st European Team Championship in 1957, and in matches against the Soviet Union.
