Pitu Guli
Pitu Guli was a Bulgarian-Macedonian revolutionary and a leading figure in the Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (IMRO).
Early Life and Involvement in IMRO
Born in the village of Gopeš, Ottoman Macedonia (present-day North Macedonia), Guli became an active socialist and joined IMRO, a revolutionary organization fighting for autonomy within the Ottoman Empire. He played a prominent role in the organization's preparations for the Ilinden Uprising in 1903.
Kruševo Republic and Ilinden Uprising
During the Ilinden Uprising, Guli was the leader of the Kruševo Republic, a briefly independent state established in the city of Kruševo. The republic lasted for only 10 days before it was suppressed by Ottoman forces.
Death and Legacy
On April 27, 1905, Guli was killed in a clash with Ottoman troops near the village of Raičana. His death was a significant blow to the Macedonian revolutionary movement.
Guli is remembered as a hero of the Macedonian and Bulgarian national struggles. His ideals and sacrifices continue to inspire people fighting for freedom and independence.
