Early Career
Nazem Kadri, a professional ice hockey centerman, was drafted 10th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the NHL, Kadri played for Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan (1996-98) and Dynamo Moscow in Russia (1998-99).
NHL Debut and Breakthrough
Kadri made his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs on October 13, 1999, against the Florida Panthers. He recorded his first NHL assist in the same game. His first NHL goal came on November 15, 1999, against the San Jose Sharks. Kadri scored his first NHL hat-trick on December 20, 1999, against the Florida Panthers.
Wilderness Years and Resurgence
Kadri spent time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the St. John's Maple Leafs during the 2001-02 season. During the NHL lockout in 2004-05, he played for Ak Bars Kazan in Russia and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
After the lockout, Kadri returned to Toronto, signing one-year (2005-06) and two-year (2006-07 and 2007-08) contracts. Despite the team's struggles, he had a breakout season in 2007-08, leading the NHL in plus-minus ratings for a period and finishing among the top 10 scorers.
Highlight Moments
Kadri scored his 200th NHL point on October 18, 2007, against the Florida Panthers. On December 6, 2007, he recorded his second NHL hat-trick against the New York Rangers. Kadri scored his 20th NHL goal of the season on February 16, 2008, a career first. He was also suspended for three games for attacking a referee on February 2, 2008.
Later Career
In March 2009, Kadri was traded to the New York Rangers. As an unrestricted free agent, he signed with the Atlanta Thrashers on July 2, 2009.
