Early Life and Military Service
Nikolai Alekseevich Danyushin was born on October 1919, in the town of Yartsevo. From 1928 to 1938, he attended Yartsevskaya Secondary School No. 2 while also training at an aeroclub. In December 1939, he was drafted into the Red Army and enrolled in an aviation school for gunners and radio operators.
World War II
With the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, Danyushin fought against the German invaders. From September 1942, he participated in the heroic defense of Leningrad. During a bombing mission to the enemy stronghold of Siniavino, his plane came under attack by enemy fighters. Danyushin defended the aircraft, shooting down one of the fighters. For his actions, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star.
In 1944, Danyushin fought in the Baltics. During an air raid on an enemy airfield on August 17, enemy fighters attacked the Soviet planes three times. Danyushin organized the defense of his group and successfully repelled all attacks. As a result, the Soviet bombers destroyed eight aircraft, three vehicles, an ammunition depot, and two tugs with barges on the ground before returning safely to their base.
Throughout the war, Danyushin flew 285 combat missions and participated in 33 air battles. He shot down three enemy fighters and shared credit for destroying another ten. For his bravery and dedication, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on August 18, 1945.
Post-War Life
After Germany's defeat, Danyushin was demobilized from the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Rostov Pedagogical Institute and worked as a history teacher in Taganrog. He passed away on September 10, 1992, and was buried in Taganrog.
Legacy
In 2000, Yartsevskaya Secondary School No. 2 was named after Danyushin in honor of his contributions to the Great Victory. In the same year, a memorial plaque was installed on the building at 62/3 Frunze Street in Taganrog, where Danyushin lived from 1957 to 1992.
