Early Life and Education
Nikolai Borisovich Godunov was born on August 26, 1953, in Saratov, Russia. In 1975, he graduated from Saratov Polytechnic Institute with an engineering degree. He then worked in various engineering and management roles in the construction industry.
Academic Career and Research
In the 1990s, Godunov taught at Saratov State Agrarian University. He earned a Ph.D. in engineering in 1997 for his work on restoring agricultural machinery. In 2010, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the reliability and resource conservation of complex-shaped spline components.
Professional Career in Transportation
Godunov's career in transportation began in 2007 when he was appointed Head of the State Road Traffic Inspectorate in Saratov. Under his leadership, road accidents in the region decreased significantly. He also cracked down on illegal bus stations and carriers. In 2008, he became the Secretary of the Political Council of the United Russia party in Saratov's Volzhsky district.
Moscow City Transportation Head
In November 2010, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin appointed Godunov as Head of the Moscow City Department of Transportation and Communications. Godunov's mandate was to improve transportation in the capital. He spearheaded the creation of a new plan to address traffic congestion. However, Godunov's tenure was short-lived.
Later Career
In January 2011, the Moscow City Department of Transportation and Communications was restructured, and Godunov was replaced by Nikolai Lyamov. Godunov has since retired.
Awards and Recognition
Godunov has received several awards for his contributions to transportation, including the 2009 Anniversary Badge "In Memory of the 200th Anniversary of the Management of Water and Land Communications" and the 2010 Medal "20 Years of the Russian Transport Inspectorate."
