Early Life and Education

Alexander Fedorovich Diomidy was born into a peasant family in Moldova in 1911. In 1938, he graduated from the Leningrad Financial Academy. Subsequently, in 1957, he completed the correspondence course at the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Career in Moldova

Diomidy's career in public service began in 1930 in Gandrabura, where he taught at a primary school (1930-1932) and served as secretary of the collective farm's Komsomol organization (1932-1933). From 1933 to 1936, he held the position of deputy head of the Department of State Savings Bank and State Credit of the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (ASSR).

In 1938, Diomidy assumed the role of head of the budget department at the Ministry of Finance of the Moldavian ASSR, and subsequently became head of the trade and finance sector of the Department of Affairs of the Council of People's Commissars of the Moldavian ASSR in 1939. In 1940, he was appointed deputy people's commissar of finance of the Moldavian SSR.

Military Service and Post-War Career

During World War II, Diomidy served as a Red Army soldier in the communist battalion defending Odessa in 1941. From 1941 to 1942, he held the position of deputy head of the Orenburg Regional Savings Bank Administration. After 1942, he assumed the role of deputy people's commissar, and later minister, of finance of the Moldavian SSR from 1946 to 1955.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers

In 1955, Diomidy was appointed deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Moldavian SSR, a position he held until 1958. From 1958 to 1970, he served as chairman of the Council of Ministers, the highest executive body in the republic.

Later Career

After stepping down as chairman, Diomidy held various high-ranking positions in Moscow, including first deputy chairman of the State Committee on Prices of the Council of Ministers of the USSR from 1970 to 1978, and first deputy chairman of the USSR State Committee on Prices from 1978 to 1983.

Retirement and Legacy

Diomidy retired in 1983 and passed away in Moscow in 1998. He was buried at the Novokuntsevo Cemetery. Diomidy was a prominent figure in Soviet Moldova, and his contributions to the republic's development are still recognized today.

Awards and Honors

Alexander Diomidy was the recipient of numerous awards, including two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labour, and the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.
