Early Life and Education
Nikolai Pavlovich Gungin was born on July 29, 1916, in the village of Fashchevka, Lipetsk Oblast, Russia. In 1931, he graduated from an incomplete secondary school in Gryazi and moved to Voronezh. He studied at the FZU school and aviation technical college.
Military Career
World War IIIn 1940, Gungin joined the Red Army. A year later, he graduated from the Yegoryevsk Aviation School. From October 1941, he served in the active army. By the end of the war, he had flown 260 combat missions as a navigator in the 122nd Fighter Aviation Regiment (331st Fighter Aviation Division, 5th Assault Aviation Corps, 5th Air Army, 2nd Ukrainian Front). He personally shot down 15 enemy aircraft in 50 air battles and 4 more as part of a group.
Post-War Career
After the war, Gungin continued to serve in the Air Force. In 1951, he graduated from the Military Air Force Academy. In 1962, Colonel Gungin retired from the military and worked as a lecturer at the Kremenchuk Civil Aviation Flight School. He also headed the school's flight training department.

Death and Legacy
