Biography of Nikolay Khramov

Nikolay Ivanovich Khramov was born on October 17, 1913, in Kharkov, in a working-class family. After finishing school, he worked as a miller at an electromechanical plant. In 1933, he joined the Red Army and graduated from the Kharkov Military Aviation School for Pilots in 1934.

During the Battle of Moscow, Khramov served as a squadron commander, defending the skies of Moscow. He flew over 100 combat missions and shot down several enemy aircraft. In 1942, he transferred to the Air Force headquarters and served as a Senior Pilot-Inspector in the Combat Training Department of the Front Aviation of the Red Army Air Force. Khramov conducted 327 combat sorties and shot down 16 enemy aircraft in solo combat and 4 in group combat.

For his bravery and valor during the Great Patriotic War and his mastery of jet technology, Khramov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union on February 23, 1948. After the war, he became the Chief of the Combat Training Department of the Fighter Aviation of the Air Force. Khramov was decorated with the Orders of Lenin (three times), the Red Banner (three times), Alexander Nevsky, the Red Star (twice), and various medals.

On October 18, 1950, Khramov tragically died while performing his official duties. He was buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy Cemetery. In Kharkov, a street and a school were named after him, and a memorial plaque was installed.

During his career, Khramov played a significant role in the defense of Moscow and the training of Soviet pilots. He was known for his bravery, combat skills, and dedication to his country.
