Early Life and Education
Nikolai Dmitrievich Zhukov was born on May 9, 1922, in the village of Pervomayskaya, Krasnodon district, into a working-class family. In 1938, he completed seven grades at Pervomayskaya School No. 6 and began working as a carpentry apprentice in a construction organization.
Military Service and Naval Combat
On August 17, 1941, Zhukov was drafted into the Soviet Navy. He fought in Crimea, defending Sevastopol, Balaklava, and Kerch. During his service, he was severely wounded and evacuated to the city of Nalchik for treatment.
Underground Activity with Young Guard
In April 1942, Zhukov returned home due to his health. Shortly after the occupation of Krasnodon by German forces, he joined the underground organization Young Guard. As a seasoned sailor, Zhukov became a role model for his young comrades, teaching them how to operate in dangerous situations and handle weapons. He played a pivotal role in spreading leaflets, collecting weapons, and participating in armed operations against the enemy.
Arrest, Torture, and Execution
Nikolai Zhukov was one of the first members of Young Guard to be arrested. During his interrogation, he endured severe torture but remained defiant. On January 16, 1943, at the age of 20, Zhukov was executed and his body was thrown into a mine shaft.
Burial and Honours
Nikolai Zhukov was buried in a mass grave in the central square of Krasnodon. Posthumously, he was awarded the medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War" 1st degree. Today, Zhukov is remembered as a courageous and dedicated young hero who fought against the Nazi invaders.
