Biography of Evgenia Kiykova

Evgenia Kiykova was born on July 23, 1923, in the city of Paris Commune in the Voroshilovgrad region. She attended the first grade in 1931 and studied at a factory-school for seven years. In 1935, Kiykova's family moved to the settlement of Krasnodon, where she continued her education at Secondary School No. 22. She was described as a lively and beautiful girl with two dark pigtails and a mischievous expression on her face.

In March 1940, Kiykova joined the Komsomol, which was the happiest day of her life. She participated in all school activities, including artistic self-expression clubs, and was loved and respected by the younger students whom she cared for as a counselor. In the upper grades, she sat at the same desk with her closest and soulful friend, Tonia Dyachenko.

During the first year of the war, Kiykova and her school friends visited hospitals to care for the wounded. They also participated in volunteer work for the country's defense. Upon the recommendation of Nikolay Sumskoy, Kiykova joined the underground Komsomol organization called "Young Guard." She carried out assignments from the headquarters, such as distributing leaflets, cutting enemy communication wires, and helping to hide prisoners of war. Her aunt, Ekaterina Sergeyevna Suleymanova, who was a communist in the 1920s, served as a living example for Kiykova.

In early January 1943, Evgenia Kiykova was arrested. In one of the notes she wrote to her mother, she reassured her that everything was fine and asked her to take care of herself. After enduring brutal torture, Kiykova was executed and thrown into a mine shaft. She was buried in a mass grave of Young Guard members in the central square of Krasnodon.

Evgenia Ivanovna Kiykova was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st class, and the Medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War," 1st class.
