Lieutenant General Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Krasnov
Early Life and Military CareerAleksandr Krasnov was born on November 8, 1908, in the village of Akimovka, Ukraine. He joined the Red Army in 1928 and rose through the ranks to become a colonel during World War II.
World War II: Tank Brigade Commander
During World War II, Krasnov commanded the 20th Tank Brigade, also known as the Sedlec Brigade, from 1941 to 1945. He fought on various fronts, including the Southwestern, 1st and 4th Ukrainian, and 1st Belorussian fronts. Krasnov participated in the Vistula-Oder operation and was wounded in 1943.
Hero of the Soviet Union
For his bravery and leadership during the war, Krasnov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on April 6, 1945. He was praised for his exceptional command of his brigade and his role in the liberation of several cities.
Post-War Career
After the war, Krasnov continued his military service as the Deputy Chief of Tank Forces, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant General in 1969. He received numerous awards and honors, including two Orders of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, and the Order of the Red Star.
Family and Legacy
Krasnov was married to Ekaterina Ivanovna Konstantinova. He died on August 4, 1991, and was buried in a military cemetery in Moscow. He is remembered as a valiant commander and a respected military leader.
