Nikolai Krivyakov: Soviet Fighter Pilot and War Hero

Early Life and Career

Nikolai Krivyakov was born on May 9, 1911, in Chita, Russia, to a railroad worker. He graduated from the Engels Military Aviation School.

World War II Service

At the outbreak of World War II, Krivyakov joined the fight. As a senior lieutenant starting in July 1943, he fought on the Voronezh Front as part of the 402nd Fighter Aviation Regiment. Later, as a captain, he became commander of this regiment.

Krivyakov ended the war as a lieutenant colonel commanding the 69th Guards Fighter Krakow Alexander Nevsky Order Regiment within the 2nd Air Army. In total, he flew 267 successful combat missions and personally shot down 12 enemy aircraft.

Awards and Recognition

For his valor, Krivyakov received numerous awards, including the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class, medals, and two Czechoslovakian orders.

Post-War Career

After the war, Krivyakov was promoted to colonel and commanded an aviation division. He then served as a military advisor to President Gottwald in Czechoslovakia.

Later Life and Legacy

Krivyakov retired in the mid-1950s and worked at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University until his death on February 2, 1984. He is remembered as a skilled and courageous fighter pilot who made significant contributions to the Allied victory in World War II.
