Early Life and Education

Vitaly Ivanovich Grigorievwas born into a peasant family in Russia. His modest upbringing included a 2-class school education followed by technical training.

Early Career

From 1916, Grigoriev worked various industrial jobs, including as a controller and a lathe operator. Following the Bolshevik Revolution, he assumed roles within the nascent Soviet government.

Military Service

Grigoriev joined the Red Army in 1919 and served in various capacities, including as an instructor, a military censor, and a construction manager.

Secret Police and Interior Ministry Career

In 1922, Grigoriev transitioned to the Cheka, the forerunner of the OGPU and the NKVD. He rose through the ranks in the secret police and interior ministry, holding positions in intelligence, censorship, and administration.

Road Construction and Infrastructure

In 1936, Grigoriev took on a leadership role in the Road Construction Department of the Ленинград NKVD. In 1937, he became Deputy Head of the Central Road Construction Department (GUSHOSDOR) of the NKVD.

World War II and Beyond

During World War II, Grigoriev held various positions related to road construction and infrastructure. He served as a military road commander and later as Deputy Chief and Chief of GUSHOSDOR.

Post-War Service

Following the war, Grigoriev continued his work in the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) and the Road Construction Department. He retired in 1954 and took on civilian roles in Kyiv.

Awards and Recognition

Grigoriev received numerous awards for his service, including the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner, and the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class. He was also awarded the medal "Honorary Worker of the Cheka-GPU."
