Early Life and Military Career
The Birth of a General:Karl Konstantinovich Zeimern was born on April 25, 1800, the son of a retired major and a noblewoman. His elder brother, Maxim, would later become a senator.
Military Education and Service:
Zeimern received his education at home before entering the military in 1818. He joined the Kiev Grenadier Regiment as a second lieutenant, quickly rising to the rank of lieutenant six months later.
From the Battlefields to the Staff:
In 1822, Zeimern became a lieutenant colonel in the Russian Imperial Guard. He served as a divisional quartermaster in various units, including the 2nd Grenadier, 2nd Mounted Cuirassier, 1st Cuirassier, 15th Infantry, and 14th Infantry Divisions.
The Caucasian Wars and Military Distinction
From Division to Division:From 1841 to 1842, Zeimern served in the Caucasus, where he participated in several battles against rebellious mountain tribes. He was promoted to colonel in 1833.
Commander of the Reserves:
In 1853, Zeimern was appointed commander of the reserve brigade of the 18th Infantry Division. He later commanded the 5th Reserve Infantry Division from 1855 to 1856.
Legacy and Retirement:
For his 25 years of exemplary service, Zeimern was awarded the Order of St. George 4th Class. He retired from military service in 1861 as a lieutenant general.
Later Life and Demise:
After his retirement, Zeimern settled in his estate in the Kharkov Governorate. His death date remains unknown, but he was still alive in late 1869.
