American Teenager Behind Florida School Shooting
The 19-year-old teenager who opened fire in a school in Florida, killing at least 17 people, was "obsessed with weapons" and had a "suspicious" social media history. According to police reports, the shooter was identified as Nicholas Cruz, who had been expelled from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, approximately 72 km north of Miami, for "disciplinary reasons". The young man appeared at his former school wearing a gas mask and carrying smoke grenades, as reported by US Senator Bill Nelson from Florida. Informed by the FBI, Nelson stated that the attacker likely activated the fire alarm himself to sow panic. Some children ran out into the corridor from their classrooms, and it was then that Cruz went on a rampage. It is unknown whether Nicholas used smoke grenades, but it is likely that he wore a gas mask because of them. The teenager was armed with a semi-automatic rifle with a 30-round magazine. When the shots rang out, some frightened students fled onto the streets, while others locked themselves in classrooms. Some hid under desks for over an hour. The school building was surrounded by police SWAT teams. However, prior to that, Cruz had already killed 12 people inside the school, two outside the school building, and one more on the street. Two wounded individuals died in the hospital, and three others remain in critical condition. Among the victims were both children and adults. The suspect was apprehended and taken to the hospital after he was found in Coral Springs, approximately 1.5 km from the school. According to Sheriff Scott Israel of Broward County, the shooter surrendered himself to the police without resistance. Nicholas was then escorted from the hospital to the sheriff's office, where he was photographed, fingerprinted, and questioned. Earlier, on his Instagram page, Cruz had posted pictures of himself posing with various firearms and knives. One photo showed the teenager shooting at targets, with the caption: "Group therapy. Sometimes it works wonderfully." In one of his social media posts, Nicholas asked his followers for help in identifying a specific firearm model. He also uploaded several selfies in which he is dressed in black clothing and a balaclava. There is also a picture of a dead frog, allegedly killed by Cruz himself. Additionally, the teenager used the word "annihilator" (or "destroyer") in his profile. In another post about purchasing a shotgun, Nicholas wrote: "I plan on buying it. But I need more information on it, so if anyone can tell me how much I'll spend, and provide references, for god's sake, let me know."
