Biography of Nina Garcia

Nina Garcia is a Colombian fashion journalist and critic, currently serving as the fashion editor for 'Elle' and 'Marie Claire' magazines, and is also a judge on the reality show 'Project Runway' on the Lifetime channel. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, into a wealthy merchant family.

Education and Career

In 1983, Garcia completed her high school education in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Boston University. However, her academic career did not end there. She later attended the Ecole Superieure de la Mode in Paris and obtained another bachelor's degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1992.

Garcia began her career in the fashion industry in the 1980s, initially working in the public relations department of Perry Ellis, where she coincidentally worked alongside Marc Jacobs. She then moved on to become an assistant market editor and stylist at 'Elle' magazine. She quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed as the fashion editor in 2000. In April 2008, Garcia transitioned to a columnist role and held that position until the end of August. In total, she spent 13 years at 'Elle,' with eight of them as an editor.

Since September 2, 2008, Garcia has been the fashion editor at 'Marie Claire' magazine. Her responsibilities include overseeing the latest fashion news and the corresponding section of the magazine. Additionally, she regularly reviews new designer exhibitions in New York, Milan, and Paris.

Accomplishments and Personal Life

Garcia is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative figures in the contemporary fashion world, which has led to her frequent invitations to various television projects. In May 2007, she joined the judging panel for the 'Miss Universe' competition in Mexico City.

Aside from her work in journalism, Garcia has also tried her hand at writing. She has authored four best-selling books, including 'The Little Black Book of Style,' which was first published on September 5, 2007. The book has since undergone eight reprints and continues to sell actively in both English and Spanish.
