Nino Abesadze: A Georgian-Israeli Politician
Early Life and Career in GeorgiaNino Abesadze was born on April 12, 1965, in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, to film director Otar Abesadze and Svetlana Rabinovich. At the age of 23, she embarked on a career in journalism at the Georgian State Television.
Immigration to Israel and Media Career
In 1996, Abesadze immigrated to Israel. She hosted a Russian-language program on Israel's Channel 33 after her arrival.
Political Career
Joining Kadima and Entering the KnessetOn November 18, 2008, Abesadze announced her intention to run for Knesset and joined the Kadima party. The party's leader, Tzipi Livni, welcomed her move. Initially, she failed to secure a seat in the Knesset on Kadima's list. However, subsequent events led to her appointment as a replacement for Eli Aflaalo, who had initially intended to leave the Knesset but later changed his mind. In November 2010, following a court ruling against Kadima member Tzachi Hanegbi, Abesadze was appointed as his replacement.
Transition to Labor and Unsuccessful Election Bid
Ahead of the 2013 Israeli parliamentary elections, Abesadze joined the Labor party. She placed 19th on the party's kandidatenlijst for the Knesset. In the elections, Labor won only 15 seats, leaving Abesadze out of the new Knesset.
