Early Life and Education

Born in Italy, Elena Locatelli is a politician affiliated with the Lega Nord party. She holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Milano-Bicocca.

Social Welfare Advocacy

Locatelli dedicated over two decades to social welfare, primarily through her involvement with the non-profit organization Anffas in Como. As its director from 1996 to 2017, she managed services for individuals with mental health challenges. Additionally, she led the social cooperative Controvento, providing assistance to the elderly and disabled both at home and in care facilities.

Political Career

Locatelli joined Lega Nord in 1993 and held various roles within the party's youth organization. She was a close associate of the party's ideologue, Gianfranco Miglio. In 2016, Locatelli became part of Lega Nord's secretariat and in 2017 was elected as Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs in Como.

Election to Parliament and Ministerial Appointment

In 2018, Locatelli was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies and served on the XII Commission for Social Affairs. On July 10, 2019, she was appointed Minister without Portfolio for Family and Disability Affairs in the Conte government.

Second Conte Government and Departure

When Giuseppe Conte formed his second government on September 4, 2019, Elena Bonetti was chosen as Minister for Equal Opportunities and Family, while Locatelli did not receive a ministerial post. On September 5, the new cabinet was sworn in.
