Biography of Nikolay Obikhod

Early Life and Education

Nikolay Obikhod was born on April 15, 1956, in Veselovka, Korosten district, Zhytomyr region. He comes from a Ukrainian family, with his father, Sergey Nikolaevich, working as a laborer, and his mother, Olga Fedorovna, being a pensioner. Obikhod completed his education at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where he studied at the Faculty of Law from 1976 to 1981.

Career in Law Enforcement

After graduating from university, Obikhod began his career in law enforcement. He worked as a prosecutor investigator in the Zhytomyr region from 1981 to 1992, holding positions such as district prosecutor investigator, senior prosecutor investigator in the city, and senior investigator for particularly important cases in the regional prosecutor's office.

In 1992, Obikhod joined the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, where he served as an investigator for particularly important cases and then as the head of the investigative department and deputy head of the department for investigating particularly important cases. In 1995, he became the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine and the head of the Main Department for Investigating Particularly Important Cases.

From December 1995 to 1998, Obikhod worked as the deputy head of the Main Investigative Directorate and the head of the department for investigating particularly important cases. From 1998 to 2002, he held the position of Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine and the head of the department for investigating particularly important cases at the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine.

Notable Cases

Throughout his career, Obikhod gained recognition for his involvement in high-profile criminal investigations. He led the investigations into the president of Chernomorsk Maritime Shipping, the executives of Diamantbank and Ukrinvalyuttorg, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Lazarenko, and his accomplices. He also investigated the smuggling of guided missiles to Iran in 2001 and foiled a planned provocation in Kyiv involving the Russian presidential candidate Rybkina in 2004. Additionally, under his leadership, the bloody activities of Ukraine's most notorious serial killer, Onoprienko, were stopped and investigated in the 1990s. He was also involved in the investigations of the murders of Ukrainian parliament members Sherban and Hetman.

Later Career and Current Involvement

In January 2003, Obikhod was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine. However, he was dismissed from this position in July 2005 and retired from the service. In 2006, he ran for the Ukrainian parliament as a candidate from the Labor Ukraine party.

Currently, Nikolay Obikhod holds the position of Vice President of the Public Organization "Center for Strategic Research and Analysis" and serves as the First Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Public Organization "Power and Honor."
