Biography of Nurylan Izmailov
Early Life and EducationNurylan Izmailov, a renowned Kazakhstani pianist and professor, was born on April 24, 1952, in Almaty. Born into a family of physicians, he showcased his musical talent at an early age. Izmailov received his primary musical education at the Kulyash Baiseitova Republican Specialized Music School-Internat for Gifted Children, studying piano under the guidance of L.G. Shavrina. Concurrently, he studied composition under G.A. Zhubanova.
Izmailov's exceptional abilities led him to pursue higher education at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory from 1970 to 1975, where he studied under the esteemed professors V.I. Nosov and N.P. Emelyanova. He further honed his skills in an assistantship-internship program under the legendary Soviet pianist Emil Gilels from 1975 to 1978.
Professional Career
In 1978, Izmailov embarked on his professional career at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, where he taught until 1999. In 2000, he joined the faculty of the Kazakh National University of Arts as a professor of special piano.
As a soloist, Izmailov made his orchestral debut at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory as part of Tolepbergen Abdraшев's graduation exam in symphonic conducting, performing "Kitchen Revue" by Bohuslav Martinů. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous renowned Kazakhstani and international conductors, including T. Abdraшев, T. Mymbaev, K. Akhmetova, V.D. Rutter, Z. Haknazarov, Rin-Yong Yang, A. Mukhitdinov, M. Kirkhoff, B. Batyrkhan, and B. Rakhimzhanov.
Izmailov has performed with a diverse range of musical ensembles, including the Abai State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestra, the Academy of Soloists, the K. Baiseitova Opera Theatre Orchestra, the Astana State Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Karaganda Symphony Orchestra. His repertoire encompasses collaborations with renowned artists such as Rakhima Zhubaturova, Alibek Dnishev, Ayman Musakhodzhaeva, Gernot Winischhofer, Makpal Bekmagambetova, Saltanat Akhmetova, Aigu Guly Niyazova, and many more.
International Acclaim and Recognition
Izmailov's talent has been recognized both domestically and internationally. He is a recipient of special prizes at the All-Union Competition in 1977 and the International S.V. Rachmaninoff Competition in 1983. His performances have taken him to prestigious stages in Germany, the United States, Italy, China, Dubai, Slovakia, Turkey, Russia, and Belarus.
Pedagogical Legacy
As a dedicated educator, Izmailov has mentored numerous students, many of whom have gone on to win awards at national and international competitions. Among his notable students are Zhanna Baktqy and Karina Abdyllina, who have been recognized as Merited Figures of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as Natasha Mezentseva, Yulia Simonyan, and Tatyana Karyagina, all of whom have won international accolades.
