Beginnings: From Actor to Musician
In search of a creative outlet, Alexei Cherny moved from Veliky Novgorod to St. Petersburg to pursue acting. However, his musical aspirations took precedence, and he set out to assemble a rock band to perform his own songs. Fate brought him together with Rus, a guitarist and sound engineering student who had relocated from Vladivostok to embark on his own musical journey.
The Birth of "Kokain"
In autumn 2002, Alexei and Rus collaborated on the debut track "Za moey spestroy" ("Behind My Back"). They expanded the band by recruiting guitarists Konstantin and drummer Egor, with bassist Grisha completing the lineup. The group adopted the provocative name "Kokain."
Troubled Beginnings
Despite their initial enthusiasm, "Kokain" faced challenges due to scheduling conflicts, creative differences, and other obstacles common among young bands. Determined to overcome these hurdles, Alexei and Rus parted ways with the other members and the name "Kokain."
Rebirth as "Obman Zreniya"
In a fresh start, the duo embraced a more socially acceptable name: "Obman Zreniya" ("Optical Illusion"). In July 2003, they found new musicians for bass and drums and made their debut at Club "Manhattan" on July 21st. A month later, they performed at a festival in memory of Viktor Tsoi at the same venue, where they debuted the song "Avtokatastrofa" (Car Crash).
Evolution and Growth
In September 2003, drummer Dan left the band, making way for Sergei "Parandroid." The revamped lineup revived their old program "Za chernyy zanaves" ("Behind the Black Curtain") and added new tracks, culminating in a performance at Club "CITY" under the aptly named program "Pivka dlya ryvka!" ("Beer for a Sprint!").
As "Obman Zreniya" continues its journey, they have numerous plans, proposals, and creative ideas in store. The future holds great promise for this enigmatic rock band.
