Early Life and Formation of Status Quo
In 1962, Alan Lancaster and his schoolmate Francis Rossi joined their school's orchestra to avoid classes. Soon enough, they formed a beat group called The Scorpions, with Lancaster playing bass guitar and vocals alongside Rossi's guitar and vocals.
Success with Status Quo
The band, now including an organist and drummer, rehearsed in Lancaster's bedroom for a year before performing their first concert at a local sports club. They were soon joined by John Coghlan, and the history of Status Quo began.
Lancaster recorded 17 albums with the group, four of which reached number one on the British charts. His last performance with the band was at Live Aid on July 13, 1985.
Departure from Status Quo

Solo Career and The Bombers
In Sydney, Lancaster joined The Party Boys, who released a hit album and the number-one single "He's Gonna Step On You Again." In 1988, he formed The Bombers with John Coghlan, the original drummer of Status Quo. The Bombers toured with Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, and Skid Row in Australia, and signed a major contract with A&M Records, the largest ever given to an Australian band in the United States. However, the deal fell through after A&M was sold to Phonogram.
Later Projects and Reconciliation
After The Bombers disbanded, Lancaster formed The Lancaster Brewster Band with John Brewster of The Angels. He also formed Alan Lancaster's Bombers, which released an EP and toured Scandinavia before disbanding in 1995. Lancaster wrote the theme music for the film "Indecent Obsession" and produced a platinum-selling album by classical pianist Roger Woodward.
In March 2010, Lancaster and Rossi reunited in Sydney, sparking talks of a possible Status Quo reunion.
