Norwegian Chess Grandmaster and Author
Arnljot Fahlen (1906-1989)was a Norwegian chess grandmaster and chess author. He was awarded the International Master title in 1952 and the International Correspondence Master title in 1953.
National Champion
Fahlen won the Norwegian Chess Championship an impressive six times: in 1930, 1947, 1948, 1952, 1953, and 1957. This remarkable achievement solidified his status as one of Norway's most talented chess players.
International Success
Fahlen also competed in several international tournaments. He achieved a notable 1st-2nd place finish in the 1958/1959 Jönköping tournament, sharing the spot with Alexander Kotov. Additionally, he participated in several FIDE zonal tournaments and two Chess Olympiads, in 1930 and 1956.
Correspondence Chess
In the realm of correspondence chess, Fahlen excelled as well. He placed 4th in the World Correspondence Chess Championship (1950-1953) and 7th in the Erich Dittkoff Memorial International Tournament (1954-1956). These achievements showcased his strategic abilities and patience in postal chess.
