Early Life and Political Beginnings
Oleg Ravilevich Gimazov was born on October 25, 1969, in Omsk, Russia. In the early 1990s, he emerged as a key figure in the city's political landscape. In 1992, Gimazov was instrumental in establishing the All-Russian Monarchist Center (VMC), where he served as one of its leaders and as a member of its Supreme Monarchist Council.
Transition to Democratic Politics
In 1995, Gimazov joined the Democratic Party of Russia (DPR) and was elected as its Omsk regional chairman. He also became a member of the party's national (later central) committee. In the 1995 State Duma elections, Gimazov ran as part of the "Southern Siberia" group but failed to secure a seat due to the bloc's low vote share.
Political Evolution and Controversies
During the 1996 presidential election, Gimazov supported the candidacy of General Alexander Lebed. In the late 1990s, he became involved with the Russian Labor Party (RTPP). In 2003, he joined the DPR's political council and relocated to Moscow.
In 2005, Gimazov played a key role in the split within the DPR between supporters of former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov and those loyal to party leader Andrei Bogdanov. Gimazov emerged as the deputy chairman of the DPR under Bogdanov.
Pre-Election Ambitions and Leadership Roles
In 2007, Gimazov was elected as the third candidate on the DPR's federal list for the State Duma elections. He also held the positions of director of the Institute for Political Sociology and deputy director of the National Democratic Institute for International Relations.
Despite its efforts, the DPR failed to meet the 5% electoral threshold, and Gimazov did not enter the State Duma.
Education and Personal Life
Gimazov graduated from Moscow's University of Management with a degree in public administration. He is also an active blogger and uses the pseudonym "red_scouser" on LiveJournal. Gimazov is married and has a son.
