Oleg Emelyanovich Kutafin was born on June 26, 1937, in Odessa. His passion for law emerged as he embarked on his studies at the Faculty of Law, Moscow State University, in 1954, graduating with honors in 1959.
Academic Career
In 1964, Kutafin commenced his academic journey at the All-Union Correspondence Law Institute. His expertise extended to Moscow State University in 1971, where he held the position of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1973 to 1982. His contributions to the field were recognized with the award of a doctoral degree in 1979 and a professorship in 1981.
Leadership and Contributions
In 1987, Kutafin was appointed Rector of the All-Union Correspondence Law Institute, which later became the Moscow State Law Academy. His tenure spanned over two decades, leaving an indelible mark on legal education in Russia. His authorship spanned numerous monographs and textbooks in constitutional and municipal law, including the acclaimed "Constitutional Law of the Russian Federation," for which he was bestowed with the Presidential Award in Education.
Involvement in Constitutional Development
Kutafin played a pivotal role as a drafter of the Russian Constitution in 1993. He actively participated in various advisory bodies under the Russian President, serving as a member of the Council and Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
