Early Life and Career

Олег Ляшко was born in Chernihiv, Ukraine. He graduated from the law faculty of the Hryhoriy Skovoroda Kharkiv State Pedagogical University in 1998.

From 1990 to 1992, he worked as a correspondent for the newspaper "Moloda Hvardiya" in Kyiv. From 1992 to 1995, he was an editor for the newspaper "Komertsiini Visti."

Journalist and Editor

From 1995 to 1996, Lyaško edited the "Politika" supplement of the newspaper "Pravda Ukrayiny." From 2000 to 2006, he was the chief editor of the newspaper "Svoboda."

Political Career

In 2006, Lyaško was elected to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) as a member of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc. He served as the head of the subcommittee on the organization of the Verkhovna Rada's work.

In 2007, he was re-elected to the Verkhovna Rada. From July 2009, he served as deputy chairman of the Committee on Budgetary Issues.

Legal Troubles

In 1993, Lyaško was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement of state property. He was convicted in 1994 and sentenced to six years in prison. However, his sentence was reduced to four years. He was released from prison in 1995 under an amnesty, and his conviction was removed in 1998.

Allegations and Denials

In 2010, a video surfaced online in which Lyaško allegedly admitted to a homosexual relationship with a high-ranking official. Lyaško denied the authenticity of the recording, calling it a "fake" and a "montage." He asked the General Prosecutor's Office to investigate the matter.

Legacy

Олег Lyaško is a controversial figure in Ukrainian politics. A vocal supporter of nationalism and populism, he has been accused of hate speech and corruption. However, he remains a popular politician, especially among rural voters and those disillusioned with the country's political establishment.
