Biography of Olga Gerasimyuk
Olga Vladimirovna Gerasimyuk is a Ukrainian television presenter and politician. She was born in Pyriatyn, Poltava Oblast, in a family of mechanic Vladimir Mikhailovich Prykhodko (1929-2006) and educator Nina Dmitrievna (born 1931). Gerasimyuk graduated from school with a gold medal and also completed studies at a music school specializing in piano and a sports basketball school.
In 1981, she graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, majoring in Journalism, with a red diploma. From 1976 to 1990, she worked as a correspondent for the newspaper "Komsomolskoye Znamya" and from 1981 to 1983 as a correspondent for the newspaper "Komsomolets Poltavshchiny". From 1990 to 1991, she worked as an editor in the department of the magazine "Chelovek i Mir" and from 1991 to 1992 as a deputy department head in the newspaper "Nezavisimost". From 1992 to 1994, Gerasimyuk worked as a deputy editor-in-chief and co-editor of the weekly magazine "Respublika". From 1994 to 1995, she worked as an editor in the UNIAN department, and from 1995 to 1996, she worked as a deputy department head for social issues at the television company "Nova Mova" (Russian: Novyy Yazyk).
In 1997, Gerasimyuk started working at the TV channel "1+1" and hosted the program "Proti Nochi" (Russian: Na Noch' Glyadya). She went on to host various shows including "Osnovennyy Vzglyad", "Versii", "Bez Tabu", "Khochu i Budu", and "Idu na Vy". In July 2005, she became the general producer of the TV company Studio "1+1". Since July 4, 2014, she has served as the first deputy head of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting.
Gerasimyuk entered politics in 2006 when she became a member of the Verkhovna Rada (the Ukrainian Parliament) representing the block "Nasha Ukraina" (Our Ukraine). She was also a member of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information. In the early elections of 2007, she joined the list of the block "Nasha Ukraina - Narodnaya Samooborona" (Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense) and chaired the committee on cooperation with NATO and the committee on European integration. In June 2010, she joined the parliamentary group "Za Ukrainu!" (For Ukraine!) led by Vyacheslav Kyrylenko.
Gerasimyuk has received numerous awards for her work in journalism and television including the Golden Medal at the Union of Journalists of Ukraine's contest "Nezavisimost-99", the "Golden Era of Ukraine-99" award, and the award at the telefestival "Edinyy Mir-99" in London. She is also a laureate of the national program "Man of the Year-99" and the V. Marchenko Prize of the Ukrainian-American Bureau for Human Rights. Additionally, she has been recognized as the "Best Journalist of 1999" and has received awards such as "Vsenarodnoye Priznanie" (All-People's Recognition) and "Teletriumf" (Teletriumph). She is a two-time laureate of the open Television Forum of Russia "Lazurnaya Zvezda" (Azure Star) and a laureate of the International Teleforum "Together" in 2002, among others.
Gerasimyuk is married to Vasily Gerasimyuk, a writer and poet, and they have a son named Ruslan Gerasimyuk, who works as an administrator in his mother's creative team. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, playing basketball, and engaging in music and reading.
