Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark

Olga, Princess of Greece and Denmark, was born to Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark and Marina Karella Laskaridis. Her maternal grandparents were Theodore Laskaridis and Ellie Chalikiopoulos.

Childhood and Education

Olga's childhood was split between Paris and New York, with summers spent on the family villa on the Greek island of Patmos. She attended boarding school in England, then studied history in Rome and later graduated from Princeton University. Olga holds a Master of Science degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Career

After a brief stint as an interior designer, Olga traveled to Panama to photograph and study moths. As a lepidopterist, she helped establish and worked in the Liquid Jungle Lab in Panama, a collaboration with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Olga also worked as a journalist and filmmaker.

Dynastic Status

Unlike other members of the Greek royal family, Olga and her older sister Princess Alexandra are not considered full members of the royal house due to their mother's non-royal lineage. However, King Constantine II recognized them as legitimate children of a marriage (under Greek legislative decree 1298/1949). They are therefore not styled as Royal Highnesses or titled as Princesses of Greece and Denmark.

Engagement, Marriage, and Children

Engagement

Olga's engagement to Prince Aimone of Savoy-Aosta, son of Prince Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta, was announced in May 2005. They are third cousins, both being great-grandchildren of Jean d'Orléans, Duke of Guise.

Marriage

The civil ceremony took place after a three-year engagement on September 16, 2008, at the Italian embassy in Moscow, where Aimone was working. The religious ceremony was held on September 27 on Patmos Island, where Patriarchal Exarch of Patmos Archimandrite Andipas Nikitaras officiated in the Evangelican Church of Panagia in Pano Kampos.
