Biography of Olga Sumskaya
Olga Sumskaya is an actress, Honored Artist of Ukraine, and recipient of the Constellation Film Festival Prize for Best Actress in 1994 for the film "The Voice of the Grass." She was also awarded the Taras Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine in 1996. Born into a family of actors, Olga's parents were Vyacheslav Ignatovich Sumskoy, a People's Artist of Ukraine, and Anna Sumskaya, actors at the National Academic Drama Theater named after I. Franko. It was thanks to them that Olga first appeared on stage at the age of five in a play called "Jenny Gerhardt" at the Zaporizhia Theater named after Shchors.

Since her parents were constantly busy, Olga's older sister Natalia took on the main responsibility of raising her. Natalia was always a role model for Olga and even introduced her to the world of acting. At the age of sixteen, Olga played three roles in the TV film "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka": Muse, Sotnikivna, and Pannochka. It would have been surprising if Olga had chosen a different path in life than the acting profession. In 1987, she graduated from the Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television, where she studied under the renowned director N. Rushkovsky. The following year, she became an actress at the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Russian Drama Theater. She performed in plays such as "The Suicide," "Mad Money," "Camille," "The Government Inspector," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Incredible Ball," and others.

Personal Life
Olga Sumskaya's first husband was actor Yevgeny Vasilyevich Paperny. However, their marriage ended in 1990 due to Olga's new love. At the time, she was rehearsing a musical at the Russian Drama Theater, where she fell in love with actor Vitaliy Borisyuk, who was her romantic partner in the play. Their on-stage romance gradually turned into a real-life relationship. Olga recalls, "I forgot about everything and completely immersed myself in that feeling. I lost everything – my husband, my apartment, and my child. Of course, I've become wiser since then, and I doubt I would make the same choice now, but you know, there is a saying 'never say never.' Everything worked out in the end. I don't think Yevgeny Vasilyevich holds any grudges against me." From her marriage to Yevgeny Paperny, Olga has a daughter named Antonina (born in 1990). With her current husband, Vitaliy Borisyuk, she is raising a daughter named Anna (born in 2002).
Acting Career
Even as a student, Olga Sumskaya appeared in the biographical film "Memory Will Respond in Sounds" directed by Timofey Levchuk and the war romance film "By the Call of the Heart" directed by Sulamifi Tsybulnyk and Galina Shigaeva.
In the early 1990s, Olga returned to the film set. She gained popularity for her role as Roxolana in the TV series "Roxolana - The Sultan's Captive." To secure the role, Sumskaya went through auditions along with a hundred other girls, ranging from 15-year-old schoolgirls to established actresses. The series, based on the book by Osip Nazaruk, tells the story of a Ukrainian girl named Nasta Lisovska, who, by chance, ends up in the Sultan's harem and becomes one of Suleiman II's legal wives, taking on the name Roxolana.
Interestingly, Olga performed the horse chase scene in "Roxolana" without a stunt double, which impressed the entire film crew. Her husband, Vitaliy Borisyuk, also appeared in the series, playing the role of Saty Pasha, a staunch misogynist.
Current Work
