Early Life and Education

Ming-Na was born on November 20, 1963, on Coloane Island, Macau, China. Her Cantonese parents immigrated to the United States when she was young. Ming-Na attended high school in suburban Pittsburgh and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University.

Career Beginnings

Ming-Na made her television debut in 1988 on "As the World Turns." She secured guest roles in "American Masters," "Hollywood Squares," and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." In 1994, she landed the pivotal role of Dr. Jing-Mei "Deb" Chen in "ER," which she played off and on for several seasons.

Film and Animation

Ming-Na has made appearances in numerous films, including "Prom Night," "The Joy Luck Club," and "Street Fighter." She is best known for providing the voice of Mulan in the Disney animated films "Mulan" and "Mulan II." Ming-Na has also voiced characters in "Kingdom Hearts," "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within," "Batman: The Animated Series," and "Spawn."
