Oliver "Atomic Bull" McCall - Biography

Oliver McCall, also known as the "Atomic Bull," is an American professional heavyweight boxer. He is best known for his impressive victory over Lennox Lewis in 1994. Even as an amateur, McCall displayed remarkable skills, winning the Chicago Golden Gloves twice. He turned professional in 1985 and achieved victories over Jesse Ferguson and Bruce Seldon, and nearly defeated Tony Tucker before his legendary bout with Lewis.

In their fight, McCall knocked Lewis out in the second round with a surprising display of aggression and a powerful right hand. Although Lewis managed to get up before the count, he was visibly unstable, and the referee decided to stop the fight. McCall's victory was significant not only for him but also for his promoter, Don King, as none of King's fighters had won the heavyweight championship since 1990. McCall successfully defended his title in a fight against Larry Holmes in Las Vegas, but later lost to Frank Bruno.

In 2001, McCall scored a knockout victory over Henry Akinwande, one of the most dangerous boxers of that time. This win propelled McCall to the fourth spot in the world's best heavyweight boxers ranking. Unfortunately, he later spent a year in prison, causing him to disappear from the rankings.

In 2006, McCall became the WBC Fecarbox champion by defeating Darroll Wilson in a technical knockout in the fourth round. He also defeated Sinan Samil Sam to claim the WBC International Heavyweight Championship in the same year. This victory earned him the right to compete for the WBC Heavyweight Championship held by Vitali Klitschko. However, McCall lost this opportunity when he was defeated by Juan Carlos Gomez, a Cuban boxer.

After a long break, McCall returned to the ring in 2009 and won the IBA Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship by defeating John Hopoate. Despite his legal troubles, McCall continued to actively compete at the professional level. While he displayed impressive results throughout his career, he often faced issues with the authorities. McCall sought rehabilitation multiple times and was arrested on several occasions for disorderly conduct. However, since 2011, he has abstained from alcohol and drugs and has not violated public order. It is possible that in the future, McCall will once again make a name for himself on the global stage.

McCall is married and has four daughters and three sons. One of his daughters, Jeneva McCall, is a three-time NCAA champion, while one of his sons, Elijah McCall, is also involved in professional boxing.
