Biography of Olivier Lapidus
A Prominent Family and a Challenging PathMeet Olivier Lapidus, the youngest and most progressive couturier in Paris, beloved by fashion photographers, top models, and socialites. His life path was predetermined from the cradle: the Lapidus family has been involved in fashion since the beginning of the century. Olivier's grandfather, originally from Lithuania, was a tailor, his father founded the House of "Ted Lapidus," one of the oldest members of the Parisian High Fashion Syndicate, and his mother was an actress who walked the runway in Christian Dior's designs. His aunt, Rosette Torrent-Mett, even opened her own fashion house, "Torrent"...
However, fate decided to test the heir of this illustrious dynasty. He had a falling out with his father and, as punishment, was not only cut off financially but also stripped of the right to carry the Lapidus name. The future couturier had to earn a living by selling ice cream on the Champs-Élysées. To pay for his education at the "Chambre Syndicate des Couturies de Mode" (Union Chamber of Couturiers and Fashion Creators), Olivier became a night watchman. He could only afford one year of schooling, during which he completed a three-year program and obtained his diploma under the name Olivier Robera. He then traveled to Japan, now known as Olivier Montegu, and within five years, he became one of the top five designers there, without completely adopting the Japanese style. Returning to France, Olivier learned that Ted Lapidus was planning to sell the company, so he repurchased it, reclaiming his true name.
A Peaceful Resolution of Generational Conflict
The intergenerational conflict was resolved peacefully, as Olivier established his own style in High Fashion. He experiments by blending archaic elements with fantasy. He showers fabric with gold, employing techniques from icon painting, and then shocks the public with his silk parka jacket, stitched with fine metallic fibers that accumulate energy. The lining of the parka is filled with electronics, and the pockets are equipped with a fax machine and a cordless telephone. According to Olivier, such jackets will be available for sale by the year 2000. He plans to create clothing without using threads and has already invented a machine for bonding fabrics. Another one of his inventions is a suit made of... glass.
However, Olivier's friends once declared that the best thing he had created in his life was a wedding dress, the very same dress he brought to Moscow a year and a half ago with his young wife, Yara. Although Olivier did not make the dress himself, following tradition, the groom is not allowed to see his future spouse in her wedding attire until the ceremony begins. The entire House of "Lapidus," from tailors to secretaries, contributed to creating the bride's gown. By the way, Yara, of Lebanese descent and a designer by profession, reportedly waited for Olivier for six years. Almost as long as Penelope waited for Odysseus...
