MacNeill produced editions of numerous key medieval Irish literary works, including the Book of the Dun Cow, Irish Grammatical Tracts, and the six-volume Leabhar Laighean (co-edited with R.I. Best and M. O'Brien). Additionally, he collaborated with D. Binchy to translate Rudolf Thurneysen's Grammar of Old Irish.
