Biography of Osip Nayduk
Osip Nayduk, a Soviet and Ukrainian theater and film actor, composer, and Merited Artist of Ukraine (2008), was born on January 7, 1934, in the village of Lishchava Horishnia in Poland.
Early Life and Education
His father and two older brothers died in combat on the side of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) near Lishchava Horishnia in 1945. As a result, his mother and the children were deported and ended up in the village of Kolindiani in the Chortkiv district of the Ternopil region in Ukraine.
In 1947, Osip completed 7 grades of school and enrolled in a culinary school in Chortkiv, where he worked as a part-time worker in a restaurant. After finishing his studies in 1952, he worked as a chef at a Ternopil university.
Acting Career
In 1954, Osip was drafted into the army, where he served for 4 years in the military band. After his service, he entered the second year of the Kyiv Music School named after R.M. Glier, which he completed in 1963. He then enrolled in the I.K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema, and Television Institute (finished in 1970). After the first year, he transferred to the correspondence department and went to Ternopil, where he worked as an actor at the Ternopil Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after T.G. Shevchenko. He also taught children choral singing and playing the bayan.
In 1969, he was invited to act in the film "Duma about Britanka," and since then, he has appeared in numerous films. In 1970, he moved to Kyiv and has been working at the Kyiv Film Studio named after A. Dovzhenko, participating in theatrical and musical productions, as well as appearing on the television program "Freedom of Speech." He is a member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine.
Music Career
Since his time in the army, Osip Nayduk has been writing songs and composing music. He has a repertoire of about 250 songs, including songs for films. In 2008, he was awarded the title of Merited Artist of Ukraine.
