Biography of Paata Burchuladze

Paata Burchuladze is a Soviet and Georgian opera singer, known for his bass voice. He was born on February 12, 1955, in Tbilisi, Georgia. After completing high school, he enrolled in the Tbilisi Polytechnic Institute and also joined the evening faculty of the Tbilisi Conservatory.

At the conservatory, Burchuladze studied under O. Khelashvili and later trained at the Odessa Conservatory under the guidance of Eugene Ivanov and at the School of Improvement of the La Scala Theatre with Giulietta Simionato. In 1982, he won the vocal competition at the International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Burchuladze performed at the Covent Garden and had the opportunity to sing alongside Luciano Pavarotti. He also participated in the Salzburg Festival. He became a Chamber Singer of the Stuttgart Opera and was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations.

Some of his notable roles include Boris Godunov in Modest Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov," Dosifei in "Khovanshchina," King Philip in Giuseppe Verdi's "Don Carlos," Attila in "Attila," and Tsar Dodon in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Golden Cockerel."

Burchuladze received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Lenin Komsomol Prize in 1987 for his outstanding performance skills. He was also honored with the Golden Order of St. George by the Georgian Patriarchate in 2010 and the Presidential Order of Radiance in the same year.
