Biography of Fernando Javier Rado
Fernando Javier Rado is an Argentine opera singer (bass) and a participant in the current 'Operalia' competition for young opera singers, directed by Placido Domingo, taking place in Moscow. He was born in 1986 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Rado studied vocal technique with maestro Ricardo Yost and in 2006 became the youngest member of the choir at the Colon Theatre and a member of the Superior Arts Institute, where he continued to develop his voice under the guidance of Luis Gaeta. At the institute, Rado also studied repertoire with Susana Frangi and chamber music with Guillermo Opitz.
As a solo performer, Fernando made his debut in 2006, performing arias from Mozart's opera 'Die Zauberflöte' at the Avenue Theatre. Following this, he performed roles such as Sparafucile in Verdi's 'Rigoletto', parts from the opera fantasy 'L'enfant et les sortilèges' and the role of Bonze in the Japanese tragedy 'Madama Butterfly'. Rado also performed the role of Raymond in Donizetti's tragic opera 'Lucia di Lammermoor' at the Avellaneda Theatre in Rome.
In 2007, he won the second prize at the international vocal competition 'Neue Stimmen' and was invited to the Deutsche Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, supported by the Liz Mohn Foundation for Culture and Music. He accepted the invitation and performed as a soloist in the opera 'Eugene Onegin', conducted by Daniel Barenboim, alongside Rolando Villazón and René Pape.
In 2008, Rado participated in Puccini's opera 'Tosca' and Bach's 'Kaffeekantate'. He also won the 'Revelación prize' from the Argentine Music Critics Association in 2007.
In 2009, Fernando sang in the comedic opera 'Der Rosenkavalier', the musical drama 'Parsifal', the operas 'Macbeth', 'Die Zauberflöte', and 'Viva la Mamma', as well as Mendelssohn's oratorio 'Elijah' at the Philharmonie conducted by Seiji Ozawa. In his free time, Rado enjoys playing football and learning to play the guitar.
