Early Life and Education
Panakh Gasanov was born on May 9, 1930, in the Vedin district of the Armenian SSR. His early life was spent in the agricultural setting of this region. As a young man, he pursued his education at the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute, graduating with a degree in agriculture.
Agricultural Career
Gasanov's agricultural career began in 1943 when he worked as a collective farmer in the Vedin district of the Armenian SSR. In 1960, he relocated to the Imishli district of the Azerbaijan SSR and became a brigade leader.
Agricultural Achievements
Under Gasanov's leadership, his brigade achieved remarkable production levels in the cultivation of cotton. During the 8th and 9th Five-Year Plans (1966-1970), his brigade consistently exceeded targets, earning him recognition as a master of cotton in the Azerbaijan SSR (1966) and a recipient of the Hero of Socialist Labor award (1971).
Political Involvement
Beyond his agricultural achievements, Gasanov also played an active role in Soviet politics. He was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for eight consecutive terms (8th-10th convocations), representing the interests of his constituents. Additionally, he attended the 24th-26th congresses of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) and the 28th-30th congresses of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan.
Recognition and Legacy
Gasanov's contributions to the Soviet cotton industry and his political engagement earned him numerous accolades, including the State Prize of the USSR (1980). His name remains synonymous with agricultural excellence and political dedication in the history of Azerbaijan.
