Renowned Italian Historian and Politician

Early Life and Education

Born in Rome on February 27, 1918, into a Jewish family, Renzo De Felice embarked on a journey that would shape both the academic and political landscapes of Italy. During his time as a student at the prestigious Roman University, he pursued a degree in philosophy and literature, where he notably shared a class with the celebrated architect Bruno Zevi.

Involvement in the Resistance Movement

The outbreak of World War II ignited De Felice's anti-fascist spirit, leading him to join the liberal-socialist Action Party. He played a pivotal role in defending Rome against Nazi forces during the city's September 1943 liberation and continued to be actively involved in the Italian resistance movement.

Post-War Political Career

Following the war's end, De Felice joined the ranks of the Italian Communist Party. He was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies, serving multiple terms from 1963 to 1968. Additionally, from 1962 to 1991, he held the distinguished position of General Secretary for the Italy-USSR Society.
