Early Life and Education
Paolo Rocca was born in Milan, Italy, on October 14, 1952. His family has a long history in business, with his father Roberto Rocca and grandfather Agostino Rocca both being prominent figures in the steel industry.
Paolo studied political science at the University of Milan and later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Joining Techint
In 1985, Paolo Rocca joined the family business, Techint, as an assistant to his father. Techint is a global conglomerate that operates in various sectors, including steel, energy, and construction.
Rise to Leadership
After the death of the company's founder in 1978, Paolo's father became chairman of Techint. In 1990, Paolo was promoted to executive vice president. He played a key role in the company's acquisition of Somisa, Argentina's leading steel producer, in 1992.
Expansion and Diversification
Under Paolo's leadership, Techint continued to expand and diversify its operations. In 1993, the company acquired Tubos de Acero de Mexico, a Mexican steel pipe manufacturer. Paolo was appointed head of this division.
