Early Life and Career

Patrick Duffy was born in Townsend, Montana, and rose to prominence in 1976 with his starring role in the short-lived series "The Man from Atlantis."

Breakthrough with "Dallas"

In 1978, Duffy landed his most iconic role as Bobby Ewing in the prime-time soap opera "Dallas." The show became a massive hit, making it one of the highest-rated programs on American television for several years and popularizing prime-time soap operas.

Controversial Departure and Return to "Dallas"

Despite the show's success, Duffy left "Dallas" in 1985, resulting in his character's death. However, his career took a downturn, and he returned to the show a year later after producers took the unprecedented step of erasing the season without him, claiming Bobby's death had been a dream. Duffy remained on "Dallas" until its finale in 1991 and appeared in two subsequent TV movies, "J.R. Returns" (1996) and "War of the Ewings" (1998).

"Step by Step" and Beyond

After "Dallas," Duffy co-starred with Suzanne Somers in the sitcom "Step by Step," which ran until 1998. Notably, Duffy directed 49 of the show's 160 episodes.

Guest Appearances and Later Projects

In the years following "Step by Step," Duffy appeared in numerous guest roles on various TV shows and starred in made-for-television movies. In 2006, he joined the cast of the CBS daytime soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful" as Stephen Logan. He briefly left the show later that year but returned in 2007 and remained until 2011.

"Dallas" Revival

In 2010, TNT began developing a continuation of "Dallas." Duffy, along with original show stars Linda Gray and Larry Hagman, reprised their roles in the eponymous series that premiered in 2012. However, due to declining ratings, the show was canceled in 2014 after three seasons.

Duffy has been married to Carlyn Duffy since 1974, and they have two sons. A former Catholic, Duffy currently identifies as a Buddhist.
