Biography of Patrick Ovie
Patrick Ovie is a Nigerian footballer and a defender for the Kazakhstani club "Lokomotiv" in Astana. He is a former player of the Nigerian national football team. Born and raised in Nigeria, Patrick grew up in a family of businessmen. He has four younger siblings, including his brother-in-law Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
Early Career
Patrick began his career in his home country, playing for the club "Shooting Stars" and winning two Nigerian championships with them. He then played for the Israeli club "Hapoel" in Rishon LeZion. His journey to Russia came about thanks to coach Alexander Tarkhanov, who invited him to the Samara-based club "Krylia Sovetov". With the Samara team, he became a bronze medalist in the Russian Championship in 2004. Soon after, he left "Krylia" and joined "Dynamo Moscow", where his performance did not go as expected. In 2006, he left "Dynamo". Patrick has represented Nigeria in 5 games for the youth team and 24 games (2 goals) for the senior team.
Move to Lokomotiv Astana
In early 2009, Egor Titov, who transferred to "Lokomotiv" from Astana, announced that Patrick Ovie, who had previously been undergoing a serious injury treatment "somewhere in America", would join their team for training. Soon after, the news of his transfer was confirmed by the head coach of the Astana team, Sergey Yuran, who said, "…our defense was in great need of an experienced and tactically skilled player… I hope his arrival will bring more structure and organization to our defensive line."
