Biography of Patrizio Bertelli

Patrizio Bertelli was born on April 6, 1946, in Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy. He grew up in a family of a well-known lawyer and showed great talent for drawing and painting as a child. Despite facing challenges from his Catholic school teachers, who forced him to use his right hand instead of his left, Bertelli developed independence and an entrepreneurial spirit while being raised by his mother on a teacher's salary.

Bertelli studied mechanical engineering at the University of Bologna but decided to drop out after two years to start a small leather goods company in 1967. Ten years later, in 1977, he met his future wife, Miuccia Prada, at an exhibition in Milan. They got married the following year, and in 1979, Bertelli joined his wife's family business. Under Bertelli's leadership, Prada underwent a revolution and became one of the most prestigious fashion brands in the world.

In 1986, Bertelli insisted on opening the first Prada store in New York. He also convinced his wife to venture into women's fashion design, followed by the launch of a men's clothing line a few years later. In the 1990s, Bertelli pushed the fashion house to acquire smaller brands, expanding Prada's influence further.

Bertelli obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Florence as the business grew. Today, Prada owns four popular brands – Prada, Miu Miu, Church's, and Car Shoe – and operates over 260 flagship stores worldwide.

Colleagues describe Bertelli as an tireless and charismatic leader with deep knowledge of every aspect of the company's operations, from shoe stitching to the color of walls in their boutiques. However, some also believe that Bertelli takes on too much, as he has the final say in all decisions, from hiring designers to determining the amount of expensive leather needed for a line of handbags.

Outside of the office, Bertelli is an avid sailor and won the Louis Vuitton Cup, a prestigious sailing trophy, in 2000 with his yacht team "Luna Rossa." He is also a car enthusiast and owns eight cars, including several Porsches. Additionally, Bertelli has a passion for cooking and is known for his culinary skills.

As the CEO of Prada and the husband of designer Miuccia Prada, Bertelli continues to expand and innovate the fashion empire, with a focus on marketing strategies involving Hollywood celebrities. He is a risk-taker, and his influence has played a significant role in Prada's success.
