Early Life and Family
Paul Stastny was born on December 27, 1985, in Quebec, Canada. He is the son of renowned NHL star Peter Stastny, who along with his two brothers Anton and Marian, defected from socialist Czechoslovakia during a tournament in Austria. The family settled in Canada, and Paul acquired American citizenship while growing up in St. Louis, Missouri.
Youth Career
Stastny began his hockey journey in 2002 with the River City Lancers of the USHL. Despite his young age, he emerged as a standout player, scoring 107 points in 113 games. He then spent two seasons with the Denver Pioneers in the NCAA, leading the team to the championship in his first year and winning the Rookie of the Year award.
NHL Career
Stastny was drafted 44th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2005. As a rookie in the 2006-07 season, he tallied an impressive 78 points, earning a Calder Memorial Trophy nomination. He made his first All-Star appearance in 2007-08 but missed the game due to an appendectomy.
International Play
Holding dual citizenship, Stastny has represented the United States at international tournaments, including the 2004 Viking Cup and the 2007 World Championships.
