Paul Voudouris: The Early Years
Paul Voudouris was born in Tripoli, Libya, as the second of three children to Greek-American Arthur Voudouris and Tina Voudouris, who was originally from Athens, Greece. Due to his father's military career, the family relocated frequently.
Education and Academy Life
From the second to sixth grades, Paul attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, where his father taught French. Upon the family's move to Albuquerque in 1966, Paul remained at the Academy. However, after two years, he realized his passion for the arts and enrolled in the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Musical Beginnings and Spheeris & Voudouris
While in high school, Paul's love for music blossomed. Using money earned from summer jobs, he purchased a cassette player, which inspired him to write his own songs. With friends Chris and John Spheeris, he formed the band Spheeris & Voudouris, which gained experience and revenue through performances at local restaurants.
Return to Greece and Solo Success
After graduating, Paul returned to Athens and embarked on a solo career. Combining teaching with evening concerts and album recordings, he quickly became a prominent figure in the Greek music scene.
Personal Life and Artistic Legacy
Returning to the US, Paul married an American dancer. While he continues to create music, his primary focus has shifted to raising his daughter, Emilia. Despite the slower pace, Paul remains an active artist, collaborating with both American and Greek performers.
