Early Life and Education
Pavel Vasilyevich Abrasimov was born on December 27, 1900, in the town of Korennaya Pustyn in the Kursk Governorate of Russia. After relocating to Baku with his father, he worked as an oiler at private oilfields. Later, he attended technical school and became a construction technician, participating in the renovation of Baku University.
In 1920, Abrasimov completed advanced courses in political education at the University of Sverdlov. However, his artistic inclinations led him to enroll in the painting faculty of the Baku Polytechnic Institute, where he studied from 1921 to 1923. He then transferred to the Architectural Faculty of VKHUTEIN (formerly the Imperial Academy of Arts) in Leningrad, graduating in 1928.
Early Career in Leningrad
Abrasimov's practical experience began in 1924 as a student, designing for the production department of the Academy of Arts and collaborating with the studio of V.A. Shchuko and S.S. Serafimov. After graduating, he joined the architectural workshops of the Leningrad City Council (studio of G.A. Simonov).
During his time in Leningrad until 1933, Abrasimov collaborated with architects such as G.A. Simonov and A.F. Khryakov on projects including residential complexes and individual buildings. Among these were the residential building for the former Society of Former Political Prisoners (1930–1933), a newly identified architectural monument.
Architecture in Moscow
In 1933, Abrasimov moved to Moscow to work on the design of the Palace of Soviets. His architectural contributions included:
- Competition project for the House of the People's Commissariat for Heavy Industry in Moscow's Red Square
- Competition project for the complex of buildings for the USSR Academy of Sciences
- Competition project for an administrative building in Kyiv (with I.A. Fomin)
- Station for the Moscow Metro (1939)
