After his poetry was intercepted by gendarmes, Bagrim was forcibly conscripted into the Tsarist army. He spent many years in arduous military service, from which he ultimately returned to his village.

During his time in the military, Bagrim's literary works were largely lost. Only one poem, "Zaigrai, zaigrai, khlopcha maly...", has survived. It was published in the memoirs of a contemporary, I. Yatskovsky, and showcases Bagrim's remarkable talent.
