Early Life and Education

Pavel Petrovich Benkov was born in Kazan, Russia on December 8, 1879 (December 20 by the New Style). His artistic journey began at the Kazan Art School. Later, he pursued his studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts from 1901 to 1906, where he honed his skills under the guidance of D.N. Kardovsky.

Artistic Growth and Paris

In 1906, Benkov embarked on a further artistic adventure by enrolling at the prestigious Académie Julian in Paris. This sojourn exposed him to new artistic trends and broadened his horizons.

Return to Russia: Teaching and Association

Upon his return to Russia in 1909, Benkov dedicated himself to teaching. He shared his knowledge as a professor at the Kazan Art School until 1929. During this time, he also became a member of the "Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia."

Move to Samarkand and Notable Career

In 1930, Benkov relocated to Samarkand and became a professor at the Samarkand Art School.
